When I worked for the Alaska State Troopers we were you also got your overweight, over-width permits at.
The State decided to go on a health kick and tell all officers that they had to be on the scale for height, weight that the doctors chart said and sent out a memo. One of our officer who was a real hunk and I mean hunk weighed the same thing he did in high school but according to that blasted chart he was 10 pounds overweight. Well if you can look that way and be 10 overweight good for you but one officer had a weight issue and had to lose 30 pounds.
I do not remember the time line on it but it was way to soon to lose that much weight so the solution.......we would issue an overweight permit.
We took measurements of his feet like they were tires, his height etc. and filled out the permit just like we would on a truck or trailer over-width permit, signed it and left it on the Sgt.'s desk for his signature. Needless to say he did not sign it and his humor did not match ours but if you looked at his eyes they were full of twinkles.
Lucky for the officer the state got so many complaints on the memo that it was dropped and they only had to pass a physical agility test once a year and if you could pass weight did not matter....
I still have a copy of that permit
