I was training a new girl in dispatch and she was a sweetie. Grew up in a small town and had never really faced the real world. We kind of worried how she would take to dispatch and dealing with the seedy group of people.
One Saturday night about a week after she started we were really busy and booking people in to jail right and left. The booking officer was so far behind that he had people waiting in the locked area by dispatch.
We were busy running criminal histories on everyone that was arrested. She ran her first CCH and it showed the man arrested had several AKA or aliases, several social security numbers, several drivers license numbers. She said she needed some help because she had done something wrong. I asked why, what did it show. She said that somehow she had got a bunch of CCH’s on people instead of just one. I looked at the print out and said it was the same guy. She said “it can’t be, he has more then one social security number and you can’t do that” I explained that a lot of criminals do that trying to hide who they are when the officers stop them and once they use a name or social security or date of birth that will always show on their record.
She said again, “no you don’t understand he has lots and it is illegal to do that” I explained we weren’t dealing with honest people or they would not be in there. That they don’t’ care if it is illegal. She still could not understand how to do that since it was illegal and that would get you in trouble with the feds.
The other thing she had trouble dealing with was they were sitting there laughing. She said “I can’t believe they are laughing, I would be in tears”. “Why do they think it is funny, don’t’ they understand they are arrested?”
I felt so sorry for her as she tried to get her mind around the fact that people were doing things she did not think you could do because it was illegal. She did not make it long in dispatch as it really upset her.
