Writing this can sometimes be hard

When I decided to start this blog I thought it would be cool for the public to understand us that work in emergency services a little more with a honest feeling about what has happened.  Fire Departments are loved when they help people but police aren't because so many times it means that someone goes to jail. I wonder sometimes why the public thinks police are so bad. I know that big town cops are not the same as small town cops but they don't arrest the suspect at a domestic for reasons that are personal to them. They arrest the suspect to keep people from getting hurt.  They are not the mean person out to get you.

So many times in dispatch I get calls saying "if that cop doesn't quit harassing  me I am going to sue him"
me:  "What is he doing that is harassing you sir?"
caller: "I am going to Bend and he has been following me for 25 miles and I have not done anything, he is just stalking me"
me. "no sir, he is not stalking you, he is going to the crime lab in Bend and that is the only highway to get there"
caller: "oh, fine but tell him to follow someone else over there" and he hangs up

I have never minded a cop behind me since I got my drivers license at 16 until one day when I was following a semi to close and could not see the traffic light and by the time it came out from above the truck it was red and I was already starting into intersection. YIKES, OMG, I just ran a red light, my first ever is 25 years..OH NO, I hope a cop is not around.  That got my mind to thinking, now I understand why they are nervous when a cop is around, they break the law once in a while.  Even the next few miles I was nervous watching for them because I just knew someone had called in and said I had ran a red light. OH NO!!!! A COP!!! sitting there just waiting for me at that stop sign, yep he is pulling out behind me, I have to make sure I don't break any laws and I drive perfect because someone called me in and he is just going to be watching for any mistake, I mean any mistake I might make so he can pull me over. Sweat breaking out, nerves are shot, good grief cop give up I am going to drive fine. I just made a mistake, give up, pull off.

By the time that officer pulled off I am sure my blood pressure was up 20 points, my breathing was faster and my nerves were shot...

OK drivers I know understand why you hate the cop behind you. But I also understand if you aren't nervous to begin with the cop doesn't bother you to be behind you.  Walking in someone else's shoes does help you understand.

One of my favorite sayings was the one about walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you condemn them when you are mad.  Then an Indian friend of me thought me the true meaning of that one. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you mouth off, that way when he gets mad you will be a mile away and he won't have any shoes....lol

Have a good day and God bless and be safe
