Where are you?

I was sitting in dispatch and the phone rang and a little crying voice said “I’m scared, everyone left me”. He told me he woke up and no one is home and he is hungry and scared. I asked him how old he was and he said 5.  This was before enhanced 911, now what do you do, he can’t read.  You have to be real careful about telling kids to put the phone down to go look at house numbers or for an envelope with the address because they will hang up on you. This would not work for him anyway as he was not old enough to read. My brain was going a 100 miles per hour

Do you know where you are?

caller: “at Grandmas”

911: “what is grandma’s name?”

Caller:  “grandma”

911: “do you know what people call her?”

Caller:  “grandma”

911: “what is your parents names?”

Caller:  “mommy and daddy”

911: “do you go to school?”

Caller:  “no”

911:  “what do you do for fun? Do you go to the playground?”

Caller: “I go to the Burger Inn and get an ice cream”

911:  “can you see the Burger Inn?”

Caller; “yes it is right by my door”

911: “what color is grandma’s house?”

Caller: “blue”

I sent the officers over to the street behind the Burger Inn to find a blue house and a little boy and gave them his name. It wasn’t long and I could hear them knocking on his door. I told him the officer was there to help him find his grandma and mommy and to open the door.

He opened the door with tears running down his face and low and behold here comes grandma out of the bedroom to answer the door.  She had gone and laid down too and had not heard him get up.

A fun case of a little boy left alone………….
